PLM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - We are getting an inside look at Amy Kern's life. She's the woman who, police say, brutally killed two people, including her grandmother, for no apparent reason.

Now, for the first time, her father speaks only to Fox 29. "I didn't realize she was capable of murder and this much rage."

Richard Kern says Amy's been sick with bi-polar most of her life. "She heard voices, and that's what directs her. She thinks she's God - God told her."

She told police she wanted to shoot her dad because: "She felt like he was Satan, and she was Jesus."

Reporter asked, "She was coming to kill you, how do you deal with that as a dad?"

Richard Kern responded, "You gotta just, I know she doesn't mean it."

Richard wasn't home when Amy got there, but his gun was. "One of the things bi-polar people do, they lash out at people they love the most."

He says he doesn't blame her for any of the killings. "She's had this mental disease for a long time. And when she's in balance, she's probably one of the most loving, caring, nicest people you want to meet."

But staying in balance was the problem. Amy was on several different kind of meds, and she told police that before the shooting spree she "missed a dose".

"Her pills were very expensive; she's been fired from the Town of Jupiter and everywhere. She had no money, and when people have no money, they are victims of the depression here."

Kern blames his daughter's mental illness not his daughter. "The real Amy is not the villain she is painted as. It's not going to bring my mother back, it's not going to help Will, and she's going to be in prison the rest of her life - the children I raised."

It also turns out, Amy's been in and out of institutions in three counties in Florida for 10 1/2 years.

Meanwhile, we're hearing a second 9-1-1 call made the night, police say, the Georgia woman went on a killing spree in our area.

Investigators say Amy Kern killed her grandmother along with her aunt's boyfriend. The call was made by someone who says she lives with that man - presumably Amy's aunt.

Caller: "He's on the floor upstairs in the bedroom. There's blood everywhere. He's passed out. I don't know. I tried to pull him. He's pale. Hurry!"

Thirty-year-old Amy Kern made her first appearance in court Tuesday morning; her left hand in bandages.

A judge denied bond.
