One dead in Wellington home invasion

By Lindsay Cohen email

WELLINGTON, FL (WFLX) -- One man is dead after authorities say he broke into a home in Wellington and was shot by a resident there.

It happened at 1382 White Pine Drive before 2 am Monday morning.

A woman at the home called police to report a shooting. When authorities got to the scene, they found a man dressed in all black, wearing a black mask, dead from at least one gunshot wound, said Sgt. Pete Palenzuela with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the intruder broke into the home and some sort of confrontation took place, Palenzuela said. The woman's husband, 34 year-old Heath Miller, traded gunfire with the intruder, and the intruder wound up dead. No one else was injured.

Police say right now it does not appear as though the intruder and the residents had any sort of prior relationship.
