Vote for Marlins ballpark pushed back

Posted by Rachel Leigh email

MIAMI (AP) - The Florida Marlins will have to wait a little longer to get a final decision on their bid for a new ballpark.

Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Dennis Moss rescheduled the county's March 5 special meeting to vote on the ballpark plan after learning that a few commissioners might be unable to attend.

The meeting was rescheduled for March 9, five days after the Miami City Commission's scheduled vote. Approval by both commissions is needed before the Marlins can break ground on a proposed 37,000-seat stadium near downtown.

The stadium is projected to open in 2012 and cost $515 million, with the public paying $361 million.

The team has sought a new home for more than a decade.
