McGee Convicted of Murder

West Palm Beach, FL (WFLX)

It took the jury about three hours to reach the guilty verdict.

It was not the outcome Wes McGee or his relatives wanted to hear.

Outside the courtroom, McGee's relatives shouted obscenities in the hallway after the verdict.

They appeared to be livid. But there wasn't any pushing or shoving. Deputies watched nearby in case any trouble broke out. McGee's family members got on an elevator, and a number of deputies also got in with them, and they left..

McGee was convicted of all the charges he faced. First degree murder, attempted first degree murder, robbery and burglary in the August 2006 slaying of Jane Tackaberry of West Palm Beach, as well as the throat-slashing attack on her  six-year old grandson Elijah Tackaberry.

Tackaberry's family was satisfied with the guilty verdict.

"I'm happy. I'm glad. It's been a long haul and it's been really hard on our family. And it's just hard. My mom, they tortured my mom and they tortured our family and my nephew and we just want justice," said Stephanie Rinzel, the victim's daughter.

"It's great. It's a great feeling. We've waited a long time for this. We waited almost three years for this," said John Tackaberry, the victim's son.

Wes McGee did not take the stand to testify in his own defense. He'll be back in court March 23 and 24, when jurors will come up with a recommendation as to whether he should get the death penalty.  Another person convicted in the same murder, Rhonda Norman, is awaiting sentencing. A different jury has recommended that she should get the death penalty.
