Police chase ends, man dead in the Intracoastal

At 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, West Palm Beach Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a suspicious vehicle they saw commit a traffic offense in Northwood.

When the officers attempted the stop, the vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued with the fleeing vehicle almost colliding with two police vehicles.

Eventually, the vehicle stopped in an alley way west of the intersection of N. Lake Way and Onondaga Dr. in the town of Palm Beach at which point the driver continued fleeing on foot.

Officers briefly lost sign of the driver, but found him floating face down in the Intracoastal. The officers pulled the driver, who was unconscious, out of the water and began resuscitation efforts until Palm Beach Fire Rescue arrived and pronounced that the driver was dead. The driver has been identified as Marcus Glenn Massey, 29. The cause of death as well as Massey's behavior are unknown.

Officers momentarily lost sight of the driver, but located him floating face down in the Intracoastal waterway. Officers then entered the water, pulled the unconscious driver to shore and began resuscitation efforts.

WPBPD officers continued their efforts until Palm Beach Fire Rescue arrived and pronounced the person deceased. At this time, the cause of his death and the reason for his actions prior to his death, are unknown.
