Flu show now protects against four strains

(WFLX) - There is a renewed push for everyone to get a flu shot.

With flu season right around the corner, this year's shot could protect you from even more strains than in the past.

The new flu shot will now be able to fight four different strains of the flu.

Dr. Ramon Vidal, with West Boca Medical Center, says now is the time to get vaccinated as no one should risk contracting the highly contagious virus. "I personally think, if you are immune compromised or you have diabetes or cancer, again, or medical problems, you should definitely get a flu shot. If you are older than 65 you should absolutely get it."

Flu season officially begins in October. The Palm Beach County Health Department told us the flu mist is recommended for children. Those who are 2 to 49 years of age should get a flu shot.
