WASHINGTON (WFLX) - Republican Representative Trey Radel has resigned from Congress.

The freshman congressman from Florida returned to work earlier this month after taking a leave of absence to undergo treatment for drug and alcohol abuse.

Radel pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession in November.

In a letter sent Monday to House Speaker John Boehner, Radel cites "personal struggles" for his resignation.
