LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - A three-and-a-half-year-old girl, found with a gunshot wound Thursday afternoon in Lake Worth, has died, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

The child died Thursday evening at Delray Medical Center, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

The child was flown to the hospital around 5:30 p.m. after being found with a gunshot wound in the 1200 block of North O Street.

Friday afternoon the sheriff's office identified the child as Zuri Chambers.

Investigators determined there was an unsecured gun in the home and have labeled the incident a 'tragic accident'.

Neighbors who live near where the shooting took place said they were devastated after hearing the little girl had passed away. "Real cute, sweet little girl. [She was] always outside playing. It's a quiet neighborhood. It's shocking. This kind of stuff doesn't happen here," said Kelli Miller, who lives behind the home where the shooting took place.

Barbera said the sheriff's office investigation could take days or weeks. It will then be sent to the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office for review.
