MARTIN COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - The Turnpike is back open at the SW Kanner Highway Bridge overpass after a dump truck hit a beam earlier Tuesday.

Previously: The Florida Highway Patrol is asking southbound drivers to avoid the Florida Turnpike at mile marker 130 after a dump truck hit a beam on the Kanner Highway Bridge.

The dump truck was driving southbound with its bed up when the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m., the Martin County Sheriff's Office says.

The impact took out a chunk of the bridge and knocked the bed off the truck.

There were no injuries but the Florida Department of Transportation will have to respond to check the bridge for damage. They are concerned about the safety of the bridge.

Southbound Turnpike drivers are being rerouted to Interstate 95 via the Martin Downs Boulevard exit. To access I-95, drivers can turn right onto Martin Highway after exiting the Turnpike, then make the first right onto High Meadow Avenue.

The westbound lane of Kanner Highway is also closed.
