Good Samaritan rescues half-naked woman who claims she was drugged, raped

HOBE SOUND, Fla. - An SUV sat partially submerged in a canal just off Bridge Road Monday night, miles from the Broward County homes of the driver and passenger.

The female passenger claimed to detectives she was drugged.

"When she awoke she was tied up. Her hands were bound, her mouth was taped closed," said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

Sheriff Snyder says the woman was battered and raped after the van initially pulled over at the Bridge Road exit off Interstate 95.

The driver, Robert Ramsay, allegedly upset by naked pictures of the woman on social media.

"He didn't like the context of the picture, he became enraged and took matters into his own hands," said Sheriff Snyder.

The 21-year-old woman told detectives Ramsay put a gun to her face and said he was going to kill her.

The woman managed at one point to free her hands and grab the steering wheel, causing the crash. Half clothed, she then jumped out and flagged down a passerby who called 911.

"Our suspect came out to Bridge Road and fired several rounds," said the Sheriff.

Ramsay claimed later he was not firing at the car the woman got into. Sheriff Snyder calls this a case of "Neighbor helping neighbor".

"Had the good Samaritan not intervened, we would have likely found a body out there shot," said Sheriff Snyder.

It's unclear right now the relationship between Ramsay and the woman involved.

Ramsay is being held without bond and faces a number of felony charges including false imprisonment, sexual battery, and aggravated assault.
