Woman on bike injured in Vero hit-and-run crash

Police in Vero Beach are asking for the public's help finding the driver who critically injured a woman riding a bike late Tuesday night.

Just before midnight, officers responded to the 1300 Block of Old Dixie Hwy. and found a woman unconscious in the road near a bicycle.

Police said the vehicle involved in the wreck fled the area northbound on Old Dixie Highway.

Officers believe the vehicle will have heavy front-end damage but do not currently have a description.

Also, police have not identified the injured woman, who they described as white, in her late 30s to 40s with brown hair and about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches.  She weighs about 160 to 180 pounds and has no visible tattoos or scars.

The woman was traveling on a red Roadmaster bicycle northbound on Old Dixie Highway from 12th Street at about 11:50 p.m.   She was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
