JUPITER, FL (WFLX) - The German based Max Planck society is planning on building its first center in the U.S. near Scripps in Jupiter.

Tuesday, the County Commissioners will vote on giving them a $87 million grant. The Max Planck Institute could very well change the face of our economy. It is promising to bring approximately 1,800 jobs and more than $500 million to Palm Beach County.

If approved, the entity will be built on FAU's Jupiter campus. The building is planned to be a 100,000 square-foot facility, where scientists will work on gaining a deeper understanding of molecules, to use in the fields of medicine, biology and bioengineering.

The Planck Institute will move into the two buildings being temporarily used by the Scripps Research Institute. The permanent home is being built next to Scripps Labs so they can work together and share information.

The institute may place Palm Beach County on the forefront of the biomedical field, and will also provide an incentive for local college students to stay local once they graduate.
